2009 Season - Week 22

SuperSaints

A huge congratulations to George who supported his Saints all the way Superbowl success. He is the first BUM to see his team lift the Lombardi since Cheryl’s Rams back in 2000. It was a tale of two quarterbacks whose fortunes changed dramatically after the first quarter. At the end of one the Colts lead 10-0 and Peyton was 9 of 14 for 87 yards and a TD while Drew was 3 of 7 for 27 yards. After that Brees was a brilliant 29 of 32 for 261 yards and 2 TDs. With just under 6 minutes left New Orleans took the lead 24-17 while Peyton had gone 13 of 18 for 119 yards in 2 and a half quarters. And then came that interception. BUMSBowl XIV Johnnie completed the greatest season in BUMS history as he added BUMSBowl victory to his Papas Fritas trophy and his nomination into the Hall of Fame. In his first final he beat Cheryl 24-14, while for Cheryl it was her second defeat in 3 visits to the big game. All-BUMS 2009 Not only did Brees beat Peyton in the Superbowl but he also beat him to start in the 2009 All-BUMS team. Drew (10pts) was a backup in 2006 while this is Peyton’s (9pts) fifth appearance, third as the backup. For the third straight year Adrian Peterson (23) starts at RB along with fellow BUMS champion Chris Johnson (18). Back-ups are Thomas Jones (9) and Maurice Jones-Drew (5). At receiver DeSean Jackson (11) makes his first appearance only outvoted by Larry Fitzgerald (12) who is making his second consecutive start after being a backup in 2007. Randy Moss is the third starter, making his seventh appearance in the All-BUMS team, his sixth as a starter. Dallas Clark (6) is a back-up for the third consecutive year while Vernon Davis (7), Andre Johnson (5) and Visanthe Shiancoe (5) all made the alternate team for the first time. After 3 straight years as a starter Terrell Owens received no votes and so his record remains at 9 overall appearances. Sebastian Janikowski (9pts) makes his fourth team, second as a starter, beating out Nate Kaeding (5) for the kicking role. Again as in the Superbowl Sean Payton (15) beat Jim Caldwell (9) for Head Coach. Three quarters of the BUMS voted for their favourite players making 45 different choices (votes attached). Superfood & Supergames As always a huge thanks to Cheryl for feeding the BUMS with a balanced diet of Burgers, Hot Dogs and Banoffi Pie. Andy H had the most successful evening on the Supergames front predicting that the Colts would lead each quarter (3 of 4 aint bad) and he was the closest to the full-time score even though he was 20 points adrift! David S made a profit after predicting the first scorer and sharing the halftime score with Cheryl. Mark created the best team, (Brees, Hartley, Addai, Thomas Bush and Clark) scoring 30 points. So that’s it for the season but we have one more newsletter which includes such highlights as the weekly scoring chart and the updated All-time leading points scorer.
